SMART MOMS

1. Walk at least one mile a day and up to five miles a day if you can!  ASK YOUR DOCTOR FIRST BEFORE YOU START THOUGH!

2. Ginger, Black Licorice (sounds gross but works - unless you like black licorice) and Ginger Ale all really help with Morning sickness. Do not get out of bed - even to pee with out first eating a cracker or a piece of ginger.

3.Get at baby food grinder for your baby - you stick an apple in and grind and out comes chemical free apple sauce for the baby - that is if you are grinding up an organic apple folks!

4. Don't register at Target for something you are not sure you want. They are real horses ends when it comes to exchanges and returns from the registry.  They are not worth the pain. If I had to do it all over, I wouldn't register with them for anything. BabiesRus is so much better and is a more organized store.  Check out www.babiesrus.com for a location nearest you. And always go when they open first thing in the morning. There's no traffic and the store is empty!

5. Don't ever heat up breast milk in a microwave! In Fact toss your microwave in the garbage! It's where it belongs. Microwaves cook all the vitamins out of the food. Also note that ANYTHING cooked or heated in PLASTIC activates a synthetic form of estrogen in the plastic that causes cancer! Don't use plastic to cook and feed your baby anything.

6. Do not use plastic bottles no matter what the sales people say!  They cause breast cancer in girls and Prostate cancer in boys!

7. Install your car seat into your car no later than 6 months pregnant!  If for any unforeseen reason your baby is premature you will be in a world of pain and trouble when leaving the hospital. They don't let you leave with out the car seat properly installed and they will not show you how to do it!

8. By 7 months pregnant you should have washed all of your baby clothes by now and put them into drawers as follows: 0-3 month drawer, 3-6 month drawer, 6-9 month drawer - Now you know where everything is! And for heaven's sake!  Please take out the tags!  They are annoying to adults - so how do you think they make a baby feel? Get rid of those ugly and annoying tags!

9. You are going to be in the hospital for at least 2 days according to the new California State law that says the hospital has to keep you at least 2 days no matter what when you give birth!  Soooo - don't spend an extra uninsured $1500 - $3500 a day for a deluxe suite at the hospital - Instead go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and treat yourself to a gorgeous TWIN EXTRA LONG sheet set and a couple of great pillows. Pack them in your car and take them with you to the hospital!  In less than five minutes your partner can dress up your little hospital room to look like a palace and all for under $100.00!  DO IT! YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!  It's nice to reward yourself with nice sheets to sleep on after a long labor!  And don't forget your partner will be sleeping on a cot in the hospital room most likely - so they should get a set too.

10. If you have pets - make arrangements NOW for where they will stay when you go into labor - and plan for you to go into labor at one o'clock in the morning.  We didn't secure this one little thing and luckily my husband successfully smuggled our poor Italian Greyhound into the hospital in a basket on wheels.  Finally, our friends came and got him the next morning.  As for my two chickens - well they passed away a year and a half ago otherwise they we would have been up the coupe without a ladder with them. And no ... No! We didn't eat the chickens.  They just dropped dead on us.  Hollywood doesn't suit chickens I guess.
